703 million people worldwide lack access to clean and safe water.

Clean water has the power to transform lives in developing countries, improving health, education, and economic opportunities.

Almost 1 in 10 people around the world still lack access to clean water—roughly ten times the population of the UK. Many of them live in isolated rural areas, where they spend hours each day collecting water for their families. This daily task often keeps children from attending school and limits parents’ ability to work, all while putting families at risk of waterborne illnesses.

Access to clean water can change everything. It opens doors to education, better health, and increased income, particularly benefiting women and children.

How can we address the global water crisis?

We collaborate with local experts and community members to identify the most effective and sustainable solutions for each area, whether it’s a well, piped water system, BioSand filter, or rainwater harvesting system. For every water project we support, our partners also provide sanitation and hygiene education, and set up a local Water Committee to ensure the water supply remains sustainable for years to come.

Time

Each day, women and girls worldwide spend around 200 million hours gathering water.

Education

Access to clean water helps ensure that children, particularly girls, can stay in school and focus on their education.

Health

Dirty water-related diseases claim more lives each year than all forms of violence, including war.

Women Empowerment

In 8 out of 10 households without water on-site, women and girls are the primary responsible for collecting water.
